Heat Press and Sublimation Safety

Heat presses, tumbler presses and freshly pressed blanks run hot enough to cause serious burns. Keep hands clear of the platen when it closes, wear heat gloves when handling hot tumblers, set hot items on a heat-safe surface, and keep children and pets out of the work area. Never leave a powered press unattended, and switch it off when you finish.

Pressing and sublimation can release fumes and odors, so work in a well ventilated room. Never use an oven for sublimation that is also used for food. Check the power needs of your equipment before plugging it in, since a large press can draw heavy current and should not share a circuit with other high-wattage appliances or a light-duty extension cord. Follow each manufacturer's instructions for temperature, time, inks and materials, and keep ink bottles away from children. Temperatures and times on this site reflect one person's setup and may not suit yours, so test on a scrap first.
